The homeless population was always a big issue in my mind. Yet I never realized the gravity of the situation until I saw how homeless people actually live, especially the children. The children do not deserve to live without a home to stay in. It seems to me that the California government does not have homeles people as their number priority like New York does.
Also, it brought a new light as to who is homeless, I never realized that the majority of the homeless population was black, I had the idea that homeless-ness knew no color. The majority of people who are homeless just made mistakes to end up that way. The purpose of this documentary was to educate people with a better idea about the idea of being homeless.
The video does definitely appeal to my ethos, since one of the main characters is a young man who is homesless. He is a reliable source since he is homeless and understands and knows everything that is going on in Skid Row. The video appeals to my pathos, since they discuss the children and show how children live and how people are trying to at least let those kids go to school. Children don't deserve to have the world on their shoulders because of the mistakes that their parents made. Also the video appeals to my logos, they state statistics and solutions that were created by the government to try and help out the homeless. The video also goes on to point out the flaws in those solutions and suggests for everyone to come up with new resolutions to this issue. The major strengths in this video were having the young boy who documents the life of being homeless tell everyone his point of view and the struggles he goes through on a daily basis. I do not believe that this video had any weaknesses.

GAYS SHOULD HAVE RiGHTS...no homo.
This country is still reserved on religious ideals, which bases the holy sanction of marriage to be based upon the union of only one man and one woman. What ever happened between separation of church and state? Although it is not clearly written in the Constitution, Amendment 1 in the U.S. Constitution states:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
This therefore created the idea of separation between church and state doctine. People who firmly believe that marriage is only between a man and a woman, have these ideas accordingly based off of a religion.
The United States of America, refuses to define itself as having one major dominant religion. America is NOT catholic, jewish, christian, muslim, etc. THIS IS BECAUSE... we have an unwritten welcome sign that says.. "ALL RELIGIONS WELCOMED", on our borders. Religion and government are separated for a reason. By having these two things separated, we have been able to successfully maintain a powerful country. Why mess it this up by creating laws that are based on religious ideas? This country will go into even more chaos by creating a new conflict for the people of the nation to deal with. Although there are peaceful demonstrations being held around the country, sooner or later these demonstrations, will form into protest, then into violent protests. Taking the rights of some, creates a domino effect for the rest.
Every American has the right to pursue the American Dream. This is what makes this country keep going and going on a daily basis. As told by James Truslow Adams in The Epic of America, "The American Dream is 'that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement ... It is not a dream of motor cars and high wages merely, but a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable, and be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position".
After years of fighting for equal rights this country, people are still ignorant to the fact that everyone has the right to pursue the American Dream and that democracy is based on equality for every man and woman.
This country is making major history with a new black president, so now that we are breaking boundaries that were once believed to be unbreakable, who knows what is going to come next..? Marriage should be legal for everyone, not just a special reward for some.

..No Child Left Behind..
Education will always be an important issue, because what people learn in school will always affect their outcome in the world. Why is it that United States is the "dumbest" nation world?How dare a test such as the FCAT be able to determine the intelligence level of any student? What if they are just a bad test taker?? They can be the next Einstein.
Low income areas will fail to see new and improved, updated books every school year, because of the lack of funding they recieve from the government and from their jobs. The lady from the video proves some very good points. it is against human nature to be perfect in life. Although by implementing competition in education in order to improve the success of a child, this idea can only go so far. Again, not everyone has access to the same resources, due to the lack of money they may have provided to them from their family.
Lets take the test that is used here in this beautiful sunshine state of florida... the FCAT. What was once created for the sole purpose to make sure that students are actually learning in school, it has unfortuantely turned into a test that have schools solely basing their teaching towards the FCAT. The FCAT is supposed to make sure that teachers are doing their job. So in order for teachers to make sure children do good on the FCAT, they only prep students for the FCAT and almost nothing else. Although it was meant for a good reason to separate the bad teachers from the good, it has actually changed the way teachers teach for the worst.
So by making sure that children stay up to par, it is not actually helping the situation (in which it was meant for), it is in fact making it worse. This is letting children who have unfortunate situaations not be able to have the idea to attend college. No Child Left Behind? Yeah... right. How about: Every Child Left Behind.
